The
Ray Gelato Giants
Smokin'
The
latest release by Ray Gelato, Smokin' (Double Scoop)
is aptly named, considering the success that this modern
day bandleader has had over the past few years. Since
he first gained mainstream notoriety singing "Vuo'Fa
L'Americano" in the commercial for Levis Dockers®
in 1998, he continues to be one of the few neo-swing performers
to fill venues across Europe and the U.S. And who could
complain? Gelato has struck upon a sure-fire formula for
success, combining high energy antics in the spirit of
Louis Prima and Sam Butera with the savoir faire and talent
of crooners like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
Smokin',
the eighth release from this jumpin' and jivin' machine,
features 14 songs performed by Gelato and his legendary
Giants. As usual, Gelato's song selections are second
to none, including classics like "On An Evening In
Roma", "My Kind Of Girl", and the Harry
Connick, Jr. tune, "Recipe For Making You."
Several originals round out the collection, such as "Forget
about Livin'", "The Celebrity Club", and
"A Pizza You," which diverge from Gelato's standard
Vegas-style swing. In his continuing showmanship fashion,
Gelato has delivered another delicious collection that
everyone from your grandmother to your little brother
will enjoy.
